Acupuncture   is an ancient Chinese medical system using hair-thin needles and other techniques to stimulate nerves and improve circulation of blood and qi (or energy, pronounced chee) in order to alleviate pain or improve health.  It can be very helpful in treating a variety of complaints including

  • fatigue
  • nausea
  • depression and anxiety
  • insomnia and dream disturbed sleep
  • asthma and frequent cold
  • menstrual issues and infertility
  • pain and stiffness of various types
    • back pain
    • tendonitis
    • headache
    • joint pain
    • muscle pain

Traditional Chinese Medicine is composed several modalities:


  • acupuncture
  • herbal medicine
  • tui na - bodywork or massage which incorporates the acupuncture points and meridians.
  • dietary therapy
  • qi gong  - a system of exercise which moves and regulates body’s energy.  

There are also several adjunctive therapies which are illustrated below: 
  • cupping - the use of suction along meridians or sore muscles
  • gua sha - a stimulating rubbing of the skin with a rounded horn or jade tool
  • moxibustion - warming of acupuncture points or meridians with smoldering herbs
